Previous analysis have shown that the cross-border micro-region equally suffers from a lack of sufficient quantity and quality of urban functions on both sides of the border. Subsequently, a cross-border approach is the most suitable way to tackle this problem. This project aims to fulfil the need for high quality urban functions through two initiatives. Firstly, by establishing a multipurpose centre (the Saint Stephan’s House will be a training center and the Vendéghy-castle will be a coordinating centre and marketplace) where educational programmes, trainings and other events will be held that will facilitate the reintegration to the labour market of those disadvantaged people who might lack competitive skills and knowledge, are long-term unemployed or face negative discrimination due to their ethnicity or gender. Secondly, through creating a cross-border network of local markets, the economy of the microregion is expected to revitalise generating further new jobs as well as raising the general quality of life of people living in the region. Thus the project is in harmony with the most important goals of the TAPE.
The village of Hidasnémeti with almost 1,200 inhabitants is located in the northern part of the district Borsod – Abaúj – Zemplén, next to the Hungarian – Slovak state border on the banks of the river Hernád. Beautiful nature thanks to the proximity of the river and adjacent hills and mountains. A clean, friendly village. Visitors can also find a great starting point for other regions of Abaúj and Slovakia, because the transport conditions are excellent: the village leads the international road E 71 (since summer 2003). The settlement operates the Hungary – Slovak railway border crossing, thanks to which international trains also stop here. Zemplén is also easily accessible from the settlement. In terms of infrastructure, it is in a good position. The institutional network of the seat is diversified and its commercial offer is satisfactory. The presence of the railway is crucial in its daily life, and the village itself also plays an important role in employing the workforce. Many people work in traditional family farming as for a living or supplementary income. The inhabitants of the village Hidasnémeti are a part of active public life. Non-governmental organizations are constantly strengthening and sports and cultural life are also important. It is located about 60 kilometers northeast of Miskolc. The nearest villages are Hernádszoznam 2km and Tornyosnémeti is located 4 km from Hidasnémeti, the nearest town is Gönc, which is about 4 km away.
Hidasnémeti is a municipality in BAZ county in northeastern Hungary. In the village the presence of railway is significant, because it offers working places for people living in Hidasnemeti. The municipality has a rich cultural and sport life. Hidasnémeti has a dance folk group and a successful football team.
